Our Mission Statement

H.U.G.S. is a collaborative effort providing activities for youth that have experienced the death of a family member or friend. H.U.G.S. offers a place to meet other people that are going through a similar situation, a place to talk about the person who died, a place to laugh and cry, have fun, and remember the person they love.

The camp is for children and teens, age 5 and up, and their families. Our tenth annual grief camp will be held on:

Saturday, June 20, 2009
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Lincoln Children’s Zoo
1222 S 27nd Street
Lincoln, NE

About Us

H.U.G.S. celebrated its ninth year of serving youth, teens and their families in 2008. Over the past nine years we have touched the lives of over 700 youth, adults and volunteers.

H.U.G.S. Planning Committee includes the following organizations: AseraCare Hospice, Charlie Brown’s Kids, CrossRoads Psychotherapy Centre, PC, Hospice of Tabitha, Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Lincoln Parks and Recreation & Mourning Hope Grief Center.

Each year we hold this special one day camp focused on helping families through the grieving process, assisting youth with understanding more about the ‘Circle of Life’, giving participates the opportunity to express themselves and their feelings, and to teach each of them that having a variety of emotions and feelings, whether it is happy or sad throughout the day, is natural.
